CAR-T Therapy gives terminally ill cancer patient all-clear

Thanks to the amazing work by clinicians and CAR-T therapy Helen Wynne Hughes, 32, has been given the all-clear from cancer. The mother-of-three, from Denbighshire, had the therapy earlier this year after other treatments failed.

CAR-T Therapy involves taking immune and healthy T-cells from a patient and engineering them to recognise infected cancer cells, to enhance the body’s natural defence and repair mechanisms. The therapy has was first introduced in Wales in November 2019 and since then , it has been offered to a number of patients.
